Realizing the Moon
Much of the Work constitutes maintaining a center of gravity and in this way the moon is central to our struggle. So we must ask ourselves what the real significance of the moon is to us, both allegorically and in literal terms. In Search it is stated that organic life on earth is a "huge accumulator" that transmits life energy to the moon as it is being "born"(p85). We are, in effect, a midwife that is birthing a planet; the moon is consciously evolving and when born it will move to a new scale of 48 laws and become free from 96 laws. As G says, this all is happening on a planetary time scale that is incomprehensible for us. Included also in this idea is the fact that we are a mere pawn in this cosmic process.
In Beelzebub's Tales we are told also that humanity was placed here in order to maintain the "detached fragments" called Moon and Anulios (p88). Realization of this would drive us to suicide, so we were psychologically altered, according to the needs of the cosmic balance, by the introduction of a product much like the Prozac of modern man. In short, organic life is a tool of Great Nature being used for a certain purpose. To this end we may conclude that "the end of the world" will come for us when the birthing process of the moon is complete. Man's egocentric idea that he could somehow destroy the world or even have an effect on it is quickly debunked by this data, placed properly in scale.
While the majority of humanity must continue to serve this purpose, individual men may alter their scale in relation to the cosmos. Herein lies the possibilities for man, not as a whole but as an individual. However, the constant pull of this "giant electromagnet" poses a significant problem for this development. We see by the special terminology that G uses the depth of this problem. Becoming free from the physical body we escape the "gravity" of the moon; the kesdjan body perfected frees us from the "magnetism" of the moon; mental body perfection frees us from the "electronic" pull of the moon. Thus only by crystallizing the fourth body do we escape completely. Indeed G states this directly when he says that by " . . . reaching the state of the sacred Ischmetch . . . the existence of a being already becomes dependent . . . only on the substances which arise directly from the manifestations of the Most Most Holy Prime Source Itself" (Tales, p1148), and then adds "their higher being-body is taken directly to the holy planet Purgatory." This is also emphasized in the fragment of the teaching regarding "the side octave of the sun" which indicates that we must transcend the sun in order to become free. In the Gospels, Jesus is initially referred to as "the son of man" and then later as "the son of God." I would suggest that this is tied to the idea of transcending the sun; he has attained a higher state which includes in itself an absolute freedom from the moon. [There are a number of data to support this.] G says "the possibility for man thus gradually to free himself from mechanical laws exists." According to the previous paragraph (Search, p84) we can come under the laws of "World 6," or starry world, and in that way become intimate with the will of the absolute.
Many things become clear when we realize the moon, the main one being the distance, or amount of work, that separates us from this aim of permanent center of gravity. At each step along the way, before we are even on solid footing (in a new level of being, for instance), the moon will again and again pull on us, dragging us back to "ground zero." Every shock, not matter how beneficial, must be followed by verification of which way we are facing, because as is often said, we are born to sin, or miss the mark (target/aim). We cannot hit a target we are not looking toward; hitting a "shadow" will be of no use.
It is my wish that this realization of the moon will not make you suicidal but instead light a fire in you to fuel your work efforts. While the Way may seem far off, the reality is that we do have potential; in all of organic life we are the only hope of "help for the enlarging world." Beings on higher scales yearn for us to join them. Take heart!
